My Rita spelled in Thai is ริต้า. The most exciting part about it I think is that I know how to read it too. We have been learning the Thai alphabet which is so cool.
We have a dog that lives with us here at my orientation site his name is Cha dam. Dam is black in Thai and no one really know what the Cha part is. We end up calling him Roger a lot of the time. There is also a cat that roams around. He is nameless. They are like our little pets. We feed them lots of food. Usually our leftovers that we can't eat or food that is not so yummy. . . like our fish soup tonight that didn't go over so well with even the people who love fish. Speaking of animals a group went to lunch today and on their way home they saw two new born kittens that were about to go across the road so they brought them home with them. We gave them milk but really couldn't keep them because Cha dam would most likely eat them. So they had to bring them back and they tried to follow them home and they had to run away. Sad but the reality of animals here.
Yesterday we took a trip to the Night Market here in Pla Pak. We ate so many yummy Isan nibbles. My favorite was pork on a stick. It had a piece of meat then fat then meat. So full of flavor and tender. Many other things that I can't even explain but yummy in my tummy!!! The nice thing is that we all like to buy things and come together and share what we got. We are such a happy sharing group! We all like to stay as our group and help each other adjust and make our way with knowing very little Thai. On our way home we got rained on and by the time we got home it looked like we had taken a shower in our clothes.
Today we had our first Thai dancing lesson too. It is so very difficult. If you have ever seen Thai dancing it looks easy to do but the hand positioning is much more complicated. We all had a lot of fun and laughed at the boys because they really struggled with their coordination.
The weather is the hottest weather I have ever been in. I feel like I just sweat my way through the day. Baby powder has become my savior. It is also sold all over the place and in any store you go down there is an isle just for baby powder kind of like we have an entire row for bread. It is really the only thing that can keep us semi dry. My fellow worldteach teachers and I are always shaking it down our shirts or wiping it on our faces. There is a cooling powder that can be used too which is refreshing and tingly. . . I'm not sure how I really feel about it quite yet.
Any who. . . that's all for now!
